Assam experiences annual flooding due to intense monsoon rainfall and overflowing rivers, particularly the Brahmaputra and Barak river systems. These recurring floods affect millions of people, causing extensive damage to homes, agriculture, schools, healthcare facilities, and public infrastructure.The ongoing floods have left thousands of families displaced and vulnerable, with many taking shelter in temporary camps or living in partially damaged homes. Loss of food stocks, contamination of drinking water sources, disruption of education, and destruction of livelihoods have created urgent humanitarian needs.
To reduce human suffering and support the recovery of flood-affected communities in Assam through integrated relief and rehabilitation interventions.
1. Provide immediate food assistance to vulnerable households. 2. Improve hygiene and sanitation conditions. 3. Support families with emergency shelter materials. 4. Restore children's access to education. 5. Revive livelihoods affected by the floods. 6. Rehabilitate damaged schools. 7. Strengthen healthcare infrastructure through renovation of flood-affected health centres.
Each family will receive approximately two weeks supply of essential food items, including rice, wheat flour, pulses, cooking oil, sugar, salt, spices and biscuits.
The hygiene kit includes bathing soap, washing soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sanitary napkins, towel, bucket, and mug.
Each shelter kit may include heavy-duty tarpaulin sheets, ropes, ground sheets, blankets, sleeping mats, mosquito nets and a solar lantern.
Each education kit includes a school bag, notebooks, pens, pencils, eraser, sharpener, geometry box and water bottle.
1. LIVELIHOOD RESTORATION (Rs 15,000/family) The project will support affected households in restoring sustainable sources of income through interventions tailored to local needs. Possible support includes: Sewing machines, Fishing nets, Farming tools, Livestock support, Toolkits for skilled workers. 2. RENOVATION OF FLOOD-AFFECTED SCHOOLS (Rs 8,00,000/school) The project will support the flood affected government schools. Typical renovation activities include: Structural repairs, Flooring & Painting, Electrical & Plumbing works, Drinking water facilities & Handwashing stations, Toilets, and Classroom furniture. 3. RENOVATION OF FLOOD AFFECTED PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRES (Rs 12,00,000/phc) This project will support the flood affected primary health centres. Typical renovation activities include: Structural repairs, Flooring & Painting, Electrical & Plumbing works.

Assam is one of the most disaster prone states in India. Every monsoon, over 80% of the state is flooded with water flowing from the mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries.
